Is the ABC program accredited and recognized nationally?

The Sam Houston State University program (provided through the American Band College) is a Master of Music (M.M) Conducting Track degree. The degree is conferred by Sam Houston State University (an NASM* school) under the auspices of the Texas State Board of Higher Education.

In addition, the American Band College Certification (similar to a Nursing Certification) is awarded, in the form of a myrtle wood plaque, by the ABC masters degree faculty to those completing the degree. Number of graduates through Summer of 2011 exceeds 650, with candidates from more than 45 states and 5 foreign countries. (CLICK HERE to see ABC Candidate Photobook)

The American Band College program and Sam Houston State University's degree (Master of Music) are nationally recognized and provide a path for graduates to apply for enrollment in other university doctoral programs.

 

*NASM, founded in 1924, is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges and universities. It has approximately 600 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials. Institutional Membership is gained through the peer review process of accreditation.
